This workshop is divided into 3 parts

The basic session starts with an introduction to wax resist with the understanding of dyes and chemicals on various fabrics like silk, cotton, georgette. It is very important to understand the process and the effect of wax and colours on different kinds of fabrics to get the best result. The session is divided in to 3 parts.

Part 1:
Making 4 samples on different types of fabrics using different techniques.

  • Block printing
  • Abstract Batik using different tools and other material
These techniques are especially used for creating a background effect.

Part 2:
  • Composing a design for final application keeping in mind the limitation of rending and single colour dyeing and maintaining its original form
  • Washing and tracing on the final piece
  • Waxing
  • Dyeing (one colour)
Part 3: (De-waxing)
This is the final and the most important part of the Batik process.
  • After dyeing the pieces and drying it for a day the fabric is de-waxed
  • Boiled
  • Washed
No. of days: 3  |  Hours per day: 3 hours  |  Inclusive of all material

Same as the beginner’s level this is also divided into 3 parts

Part 1:
  • Composing and tracing of design for multicolor dyeing
Part 2: (dyeing)
  • Since the process is with multiple colours there are 2 or 3 rounds of waxing and dyeing

This helps in understanding the reaction of dyes to various other colours and the change of shades due to multiple dyeing.

Part 3:

  • De-waxing
  • Boiling
  • Washing
No of days: 3  |  Hours per day: 3 to 4  hours  |  Inclusive of all material

This is the final level for ones who have successfully completed the previous 2 levels.

This level specializes in the process of dyeing with more than 6 colours to create a wall hanging painting with varied wax compositions.

This class is scheduled for 4 days, 3 hours each day but can be extended as per the completion of your artwork.

Same as we work the previous 2 levels the part 1 and part 3 remain the same.
For Part 2 we change the wax and dye compositions to achieve the desired results.
